Rants
Yada!Yada!Yada!
Blah!Blah!Blah!
9/9/2000
As I've seen in my guestbook, the previous
rant generated lotsa opinions 'bout who's better for who...the comments featured
here are purely my opinion but as I've reiterated previously (see below),
for me, Tomoe is still the one for Ken-san
Beside the point that she is a better cook :P we all know that no matter how much time passes by & how Kenshin atone & try to forget, the blood of those he had killed during the Bakumatsu weigh heavily on his soul. In light of this, I don't think Kaoru has enough experience to fully understand the complexity of Ken-san's nature or to be precise, the battousai in him. Kaoru loves Ken-san, there's no doubt about it but I dont' think she could ever bring herself to love the Hitokiri Battousai, only the part as Himura Kenshin (that is why she prefers the rurouni).
On the other hand, Tomoe, she knew full well what Ken-san really was & what kind of life he leads. She saw him kill without remorse, time & again, she was there as he fought against what he had become, the kind-hearted boy/man fighting the maddened killer that had grown within him. He even killed her fiance' right? But still, she grew to love him, not only for the man he wished to become [as I remember it, it was to Tomoe that Kenshin gave his word that after new era he had been fighting for is established, he would find a way to atone for all the lives he took, of course, with her at his side] -like what he is when Kaoru met him, but also for the battousai that he was.
That kind of love, the full acceptance of one's assets and shortcomings is, I believe, the kind of love that would last.

Rant
Some of you will ask why do I think Kenshin is much better
of with Tomoe.
WHY?
Firstly,
she was able to accept and love Kenshin even knowing that he was the one who
killed her late fiance' which made her leave her family, wander off to tumultous
Kyoto alone in order to get revenge. Secondly, she was able to accept the fact
that Kenshin is the dreaded Hitokiri Battousai who killed and will kill again.
Thirdly, I love the idea that she was able to melt away the madness & anger
which threatened to destroy Kenshin during his stint as hitokiri (she was
really an effective sheath for the drawn sword known as Kenshin *grins*).
Lastly, *grins again* they look good together. ^_^
Kaoru?
Hmmm...she
just wanted Kenshin to to be the Rurouni which, in my opinion is not who Kenshin
is. Kenshin is both the Hitokiri and the Rurouni. One is not the same without
the other.
